Don’t let the sun go down on me.

Lovie has been waiting for the eclipse for two years. He made our travel plans long in advance. There was a viewing path running diagonally across the country. The places in that band were supposed to be the best places to view the eclipse. Lovie chose Fort Worth as a place that would be a good choice for a perfect viewing of the eclipse. The plane trip went smoothly, and we arrived at DFW airport. An airport in Idaho is so tiny and is easier to navigate than DFW. The car rental was a 3-4 mile bus ride..insane. We landed in great weather. It was so lovely as we left Idaho with the whole valley covered in snow. The hotel was quite a drive from the airport. We stayed at a charming hotel on the Texas Christian University campus. It was a convenient spot. We had a few days to sightsee and figure out an excellent place to view the eclipse.

Lovie was so excited and had ideas for the perfect viewing spot. He wanted to go to the shared courtyard at the school, but I was not keen to do that. The weather in Texas is unpredictable, and I was super slow to outrun a big Texas storm. We found out that the rooftop bar was opening early that day. So we settled on going up to the rooftop for the viewing. The rooftop has a big bar, comfy sofas, chairs, and tables. The sofas were all cordoned off. We found a table. We had just sat down, and Lovie started unpacking his viewing bag of goodies.

There were two couples behind the barrier. They were super friendly, and they invited us behind the barrier. It turned out it was the owner/builders of the hotel, and they even paid for our drinks. They were full of Texan hospitality. The actual eclipse was a fantastic experience. The darkness was very eerie, and we had a perfect sky for the experience. We were treated to an amazingly spectacular thunderstorm that evening. We had floor-to-ceiling windows in our hotel suite. It was good that Lovie’s eclipse goody bag was a roaring success.

We also enjoyed some excellent places to eat. We went to an iconic restaurant, Reata, in Downtown Fort Worth. After the dinner, I got to sneak a peak at a tremendous not-for-profit art store full of Mexican art and decor.

I could not resist getting a Lupita doll. She is not something I would put in my living room, but she is perfect for my office with all the other art goodies I love. We also got to go to a tremendous, well-known Mexican place, but it was too spicy for my delicate self. The best thing we had was a Texas BBQ at  Heims. I had burnt tips pork belly…..Lord, it should be illegal. It was beyond delicious.

We also took time out to visit the Kimbell Art Museum. It took us forever to get our butts into gear, and I regretted being lazy because we had no time to visit the modern art museum across from the Kimbell. It was amazing to see the works of famous artists. We had dinner at Lovie’s school friend’s country club on our last day. All in all, it was a fantastic vacation. It was nice to see someplace else. I had not visited Texas in 30 years. The people are amicable, but I noticed no cowboy hats or boots, and only the barista at Dutch Bros said Y’all. Where are all the Texans? Lovie’s friend said it is because of the influx of Californians. We are creeping in all over. Yikes. I just hope liberals stay put. They created the mess, and they can stay and fix it. Do not bring your crap to other states and destroy them like you destroyed California.

All in all, it was a fantastic vacation. It was nice to see someplace else. Lovie always spoils me with trips I want to take, so I am so glad he got to do something he wanted.
